Youtube housekeeping tips

Hey you youtubers and 888DAGgers,

I have to admit I am very excited about having my own youtube channel now, being able to upload my own clips and share them with family, friends and the rest of the world.

Now here are some handy housekeeping tips for you to get your clips to a wider audience.

First of all you can be as creative as you would like to be. Once you have logged in just click on the Edit Channel to change your Channel Information, Channel Design and to Organize Videos.

You can also edit your clip through the Video Owner Option by clicking Edit Video. Here you can change the Title of your clip, Description and Tags.

Here are few points we would like you to consider.
  1. All Clips should have the following Tags
  • 888DAG, 888DAG.com and any others you would like to add
2. All Captioned Clips should have the following Tags
  • 888DAG, 888DAG.com, Close Caption, Subtitle, Deaf, ESL and any others you would like to add
3. In Description you can add you own description of your Clip. Please add the following to your description if your Clip has been captioned.
  • Closed Caption and Subtitle for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. Reading English for ESL.

There are quite a few groovy functions in youtube such as Insight in Video Owner Option where you can follow the popularity of your Clips eg in which country your clip was watched the most.

Last but not least it would be great if you could please Subscribe or become Friends with the other 888DAGgers (of course not exclusively) - check out youtube channel 888eyeoftheleopard for a listing.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions and we will try to get back to you asap.

Remember it's all about fun all the time

Social networking: articles

Here are some resources on social networking for those who want to learn more about it:

What is online social networking? For link to article click HERE.

When you're in the world of marketing — reading about it, planning campaigns, researching people — it's sometimes easy to overlook the basics. So we started our study by simply asking 'do you know what online social networking is?'.

And that's where our first myth was debunked. It turns out social networking is not taking over the world. Across the 17 markets surveyed, 42% of people know what online social networking is, which leaves 58% in the dark... either saying 'no' or 'don't know'.

The Dutch were most likely to know the term with 89% answering 'yes', followed by Japan at 71% and Americans with 70% answering in the affirmative. Still, that leaves three in every ten Americans (the home of social networking) outside the world of digital friends and relationships.

Synovate's Senior Vice President of the US-based Consumer Insights group, Bob Michaels, says, "While a majority of Americans have access to computers there are still others, particularly seniors and immigrants, who do not. Online social networking just is not part of their world."

The implications for marketers are clear and, yes, basic. Know your audience. But you knew that.

This article looks in detail at the following:

> Who's in the in-crowd?

> Sites of choice

> Privacy and predators

> Poking around social media attitudes

> Is social media a marketing dream?

Did you know?

> More than half the social networkers surveyed agreed that people's language skills are deteriorating as a result of online social networking. (Huh? Wot do u mean?)

> Thirty seven percent of all people from the UAE, 35% of South Africans and 29% of Taiwanese agreed that they had more friends online than they have in the 'real' world.

> Seventy-eight percent of social networkers agree that people are better off doing outdoor activities than spending time in front of a computer. The Central and Eastern European markets were the most passionate about people getting off the PC and into the great outdoors with 99% of Polish site members agreeing with the statement, followed by Serbia (96%) and Russia (94%).

> Social networkers in Indonesia and France are the least likely to be losing interest in the activity (82% and 79% are going strong respectively).

Awesome blogging!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone in the 888DAG family. What an incredible group of blogs are being developed, what an amazing run of posts/ideas/discussion is unfolding, and how powerful is it to be harnessing the rich media of the Internet - blogs AND Youtube - as our form of expression?!

There are always blog updates each day but today it seems everyone has been inspired to write. The 'updated' list has been running red hot :-)

An 888DAG moment everyone should feel really good about.

Thank you to everyone for giving so much to this. The links are coming together ... everyone is making a difference.

PS - And thanks to those who have been frantically running around tidying their online houses overnight. We'll all be eating off the floors at this rate !

Big Brother

LAST CHANCE TO AVOID AN EMAIL FROM ME :-)

This project is all about free expression/fun/generating links and discussion BUT in order for this to gain momentum we also have to have some order/similar look-feel [don't panic - not planning on turning you into Ronald McDonalds], and consistency in updating re. tagging etc.

We have some exciting NEW stuff on the horizon (stay tuned) but in the interim I am compiling a table that is checking across all blogs/Youtube channels the following:

- are posts correctly tagged?
- do you have the full 888DAG blog list on your blog?
- have your Youtube videos been embedded in your blog?
- have the videos been correctly described and tagged on your channel?
- do you actually HAVE a channel (only applicable if you have a 888DAG camera)?
- is your Channel linked to the other people in the 888DAGGERS network?

I'm guilty of not completing a couple of these myself (rushing off now to erase my mistakes before someone says "HANG ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!") so don't feel bad if your online house is also a bit scruffy around the edges.

If it's lack of time and you just don't like cleaning can you please make some time to tidy (or perhaps get a friend/partner/lover to assist)

If it's confusion about something please add a comment or send me an email at katrina.partridge@bigpond.com. We're here to help.

Launch of 9/08/08. We need your help

Greetings 888Daggers!!!!!!! How good was it to see the sun today?? (apologies to those who didn't see it if they weren't somewhere where it was out ...)

Exciting day today - 8/09/08. The wondrous team at Foxtel/Ai-Media have been working their backsides off to get the videos ready to roll.

2 things to do - and please remember: if you can't do something just holler - someone will be able to help :-)

* Please link your Youtube channel to the 888Dag stream. You can do so very easily by going to the following link - http://www.youtube.com/user/888DAG - and clicking on subscribe on left hand side of screen [orange box]. You can also access this link by clicking on www.dag888.com, clicking through to site and then clicking on the link to the 888DAG YouTube Channel.

* If you have completed videos and submitted them (THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!), they have been captioned ... but if you don't have a Youtube Channel - ummm, we have a problem. You must have a Youtube channel to see the videos. Again - if you need help to create one just ask.

For all those who have their videos showing in their channels - CONGRATS!!!!!! Don't forget the list of tags: 888DAG, 888, CC, closed caption, caption, subtitle, deaf. Remember you also have to add the name of your video and a description of what it contains.

Remember, as Lao-Tzu said in the 5th Century "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Q&A: Blog not refreshing

I received an email asking for help with the following issue:

My blog seems to have been frozen as I am not getting any updates. When I browse my blog it's not been updated. I thought how strange that no one has been blogging since last week and discovered they have!!! Do you have any idea why it is doing that? I have tried refreshing it - but nothing!

A couple of things may be the issue:

- if you are accessing your blog through your favourites you may have bookmarked a post rather than the blog URL itself [the latter will always just end in blogspot.com [nothing added after the .com)
- some computers just like to take a few moments to head to Bermuda and confuse us half to death and they can sometimes (not sure why) store an old version of the page - refresh should assist here (although I note in this case it didn't)

If anyone has any additional ideas (as this is a shared portal of tips/assistance after all) please add them in the comments section. Shared knowledge = greater knowledge :-)
